Pennant Welcome Two New Apprentices

Pennant are pleased to have had two new apprentices join the team in Cheltenham over the last few months. Callum Mahon is our HR Apprentice and Caitlin Helbrow is our Technical Administrator Apprentice. Learn a little more about Caitlin and Callum below.

Meet Caitlin – Technical Administrator Apprentice

My name is Caitlin Helbrow and I am a Technical Administrator Apprentice at Pennant. I am completing my Business Administration Apprenticeship through Gloucestershire College. My course involves gaining experience in the workplace whilst doing coursework on the side. So far, I am really enjoying working and learning at the same time and understanding how the business works.

My job role involves a range of activities. The main business areas that my apprenticeship covers are supporting the sales team with general admin tasks, providing support with quotation documents and understanding the general sales process. This side of the apprenticeship will help me in the future by enhancing my skills, expanding my network and developing my knowledge of an important department in any business. Coupled with that, I also assist the engineering team, providing me with more exposure to everyday admin tasks other business functions require support in.

Starting a new job whilst a pandemic is still in full force has been a very interesting experience. Getting used to following different business practices as well as safety measures has allowed me to utilise alternative forms of communication such as Teams and Zoom meetings. Although this has been useful it created a new challenge of putting faces to names.

In five years’ time, I am unsure about what I would like to do and areas that I would like to specialise in, but I hope over my apprenticeship I will identify key areas of interest and tasks I enjoy which will shape my future career in 5 years.

During my first month at Pennant, I have enjoyed the challenge of learning new processes, such as the quotation process, getting to know more about Pennant and the variety of people that work there, I am also enjoying my college assignments which are helping me to develop skills such as priority and deadline management.

Meet Callum – HR Apprentice

I am the HR Assistant Apprentice within Pennant, currently undertaking a Level 3 Human Resources Support course and working towards my CIPD Level 3 qualification. Prior to working at Pennant I didn’t have much direction or any plans for my career prospects, I’d left University twice and had various different jobs before I fell into HR after a friend suggested that it might be a good career path for myself and I haven’t looked back since.

I started a week before the UK was hit with a national lockdown which definitely had its setbacks, but I persisted because I enjoyed the work I was doing so much. The college outlook was very different due to everything being via Zoom initially, and working from home was definitely a struggle at times, especially being newly exposed to the business and not really knowing how it operated.

In 5 years’ time I’m hoping to have furthered my career within Human Resources, eventually gaining higher qualifications and stepping into more senior and advisory roles. During my career at Pennant so far, I have really enjoyed the atmosphere within the office, people are very approachable and easy to talk to and I’ve also enjoyed the work I’ve been doing overall, meeting and communicating with new people all the time.

Welcome to the team both!Â
