Pennant demonstrates the new GenSkill MK2 prototype at the 2018 UK World Skills Event

The world skills UK event is held annually and caters for the following: Schools/colleges, employers/organisations, parents, families and young adults.

It is free to attend and offers careers advice and skills activities across a huge range of sectors. Pennant’s presence on the Aeronautical Engineering stand was to primarily help launch the GenSkill MK 2 and essentially ‘prove’ what was a prototype. Several apprentice aerospace engineers were available to assist in this exercise.

The World skills live event for Aeronautical engineering is encapsulated in an area of approximately 25mand houses areas for helicopter servicing, electrical fault finding, engine servicing/fault finding, fabrication (sheet metal), hydraulics (HSPT x 2) and mechanical (GenSkill x 4). The GenSkill MK 2 was on display at the front of the enclosure as part of the Demonstration area.

Technical Training Solutions (TTS) specialist Karl Atkins provided opportunities for Students to get their hands dirty and get some practical experience on GenSkill MK 2. They carried out basic remove/install procedures with the cover down and access restricted. This helped them to appreciate the ‘skill of hand’ requirements for aviation maintenance technicians.

This was an excellent event with over 85,000 people attending during the 3-days. Congratulations to the Aeronautical National final winners who were Katherine Jennings (Royal Navy) and Oscar Jackson (Thomas Cook Aircraft Engineering).
