GenS helping OEM IPS Managers

Use Case:

OEM IPS Managers

Julia Smith is an experienced IPS Manager within an OEM supportability department in the UK, delivering state-of-the-art armoured vehicles to a wide range of international customers. As part of the data deliverables to support the vehicle deliveries to each customer, she must provide Product Support Analysis (PSA) data.

Whilst the data has been created using the ageing Mil Std 1388-2A standards, each of the customers requires the PSA data to be delivered to the standard or specification applicable to the customer’s country. Consequently, PSA data must be output in a range of standards and specifications, all with slightly different data field requirements.

Until recently, Julia had to employ several PSA operatives to extract data from the PSA database and then convert it into the desired standard or specification for onward transmission to the customer. A time-consuming task which runs the risk of human error.

Julia got to hear about a new PSA database on the market supplied by Pennant called GenS, part of the Auxilium system support suite, which is the latest generation of a renowned software application called OmegaPS. Not only does GenS allow the import of existing Standard or Specification compliant PSA data, but also allows users to carry out bulk uploads using Excel spreadsheets. GenS stores this data in a standard and specification agnostic data repository. When the data is required, Julia’s team can select which standard and/or specification that they wish to work in, and GenS will then fill the new standard/specification tables and fields with the existing PSA data in the repository. As part of the conversion process, GenS will identify any missing required, or incorrectly formatted data to enable easy correction. From then on Julia’s team can undertake the necessary analysis of the data.

Alongside this activity, Julia’s team can also now address the PSA data needs of other international customers. Should another customer require data to a different standard or specification, it is a simple task to identify the standard or specification in the drop-down menu and select a different solution.

The benefit of this task is that all the various standards required will be using the same data from the repository. Should a specific piece of information be changed, it will cascade across all the other standards that use that data. If a specific piece of information is only used in a single standard or specification, it will not appear in other standards or specifications.

With this powerful Product Support Analysis application, Julia’s team output has markedly increased with a significant reduction in swivel-chair operations. No longer does each customer need its own supportability team; the PSA team can switch seamlessly between the different standards and specifications applicable to each customer – the savings in time and workforce are palpable.

GenS is a modern PSA application available as part of the Auxilium suite of IPS software applications.
