ALSTOM
Pennant's relationship with ALSTOM Transport was established over 12 years ago with an outsourcing agreement. The contract covers a wide range of support services. From small beginnings, the relationship now involves Pennant in taking ownership of work for ALSTOM sites in the UK, France and USA. Transfer of data and products between the two companies is achieved by a secure FTP site. Under the contract, Pennant produces a wide range of publications for major contracts worldwide.
A typical project - New York City Transit:

Kawasaki Heavy Industries Limited - Taipei Subway EMU - Manuals and Training
In February 2005 KHI (Japan) awarded Pennant the contract to produce Maintenance Manuals for the Taipei Subway EMU project. In addition to producing a suite of Maintenance Manuals, Pennant were required to develop and administer a programme of Operator and Maintenance Training. As a requirement of the contract, and to assist with a seamless transfer of data, a Pennant representative remained on-site in Japan throughout the initial production phase of the manuals and training materials (circa 15 months). Having considered the various options for the safe transfer of large amounts of data between KHI and Pennant, Pennant provided KHI with access to an SFTP site. This not only allowed easy supply of engineering data in a secure environment, but provided a convenient method for uploading documents for technical approval.
The suite of Maintenance Manuals required comprised:
- Operator's Instruction Manual
- Running Maintenance and Service Manual
- Heavy Repair Manual
The Training Programme comprised six courses and associated Training Guides as follows:
- EMU Maintenance Course - Delivered in Japan
- Operator Training Course - Delivered in Taipei
- Two Mechanical Maintenance Courses - Delivered in Taipei
- Two Electrical Maintenance Courses - Delivered in Taipei
- Mechanical Heavy Repair Course - Delivered in Taipei
- Electrical Heavy Repair Course - Delivered in Taipei.
Network Rail - West Coast Main Line TAI Training
Pennant provided a task-based technical training package supplied on 10 DVDs for track engineers and associated staff working on the upgrading of the West Coast Main Line to allow the operation of 125mph tilting trains.
At the beginning of the project, training objectives were agreed on by working closely with Network Rail. Pennant produced graphical storyboards in liaison with Network Rail's subject matter experts, and running scripts for each module were produced from source data provided by the client.
Pennant organised the filming of the various design implementation activities and produced still and animated graphics in 2D and 3D to illustrate theoretical concepts and the effects of certain conditions on fixed infrastructure and rolling stock.
The running script was professionally narrated and the live footage, photographs and graphics were video edited by Pennant. Each module was broken down into sections and a DVD menu interface created for easy access.
