R4i MOBIETP PLUS

Adobe’s PDF format has been the backbone of publishing distribution since the late 1990’s.  Technical Publications were printed as complete documents and printed change pages manually inserted to update those manuals. In 2000 the step for technical publications was the delivery of data to consumers via the Adobe PDF format on CD-DROM or via FTP and then opened in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

With the maturing of the internet, technical and operational information has since been rendered from source data and made available to readers as a read only, static medium viewed in a web browser.

The age of the Tablet demands interactive technical content offline, online, anytime.

Offline, online, anytime – easily said, not so easily delivered to personnel with different tablet platforms and security access.  Field personnel will need offline access to content while support personnel may need parts data access to third party ERP systems.

Authors are now publishers. Publishers are now internet technicians:

    • How do you control which Interactive Technical Manuals are delivered to whom?
    • What manuals can be viewed online and then downloaded?
    • How can readers be notified of content updates and bulletins?
    • How are Tablet apps managed in Google Play?
    • How do we do all of this without needing I.T support?

The R4i Content Distribution and Management Server (CDMS) manages the publication and distribution of Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP) to tablet devices via the R4i S1000D Common Source Data Base (CSDB). Accessed via a Web browser, the CDMS Admin Portal enables content owners to control what publications are distributed to content consumers.

Part of the R4i Product Suite, the CDMS automatically receives published publications from the R4i CSDB Server which are then staged on the CDMS Server. Administrators can then define the publication properties of the IETP, including access, online and offline viewing and update properties.

In the past, paper and PDF fulfilled the delivery requirements for most organizations.  Today, information agility is a key requirement for technicians and crew.  R4i CDMS enables publishing teams the flexibility to publish, update and revoke interactive publications directly generated from the technical publications repository.  Leverage the CDMS distribution of technical and operational content direct to R4i Viewer for Windows and MobieTP PLUS for iPad.

    R4i MobieTP for iPad

The R4i MobieTP PLUS app is a royalty-free application for iPad users. Mobile IETPs free technicians, operators and crews from desktop PC’s and bulky laptops at minimum cost to an organisation.

The R4i MobieTP PLUS Viewer for iPad utilizes single source IETP packages generated from the R4i CSDB Server, including support for applicability. IETP packages are generated from the R4i CSDB Media Generator which are in turn distributed by CDMS and ‘read’ by R4i MobieTP PLUS on iOS devices.

Optimised for small screens and large files, the native Mobile IETP Viewer is simple to use and can access content in both online and offline modes on iOS devices.

The R4i CDMS resides between the R4i CSDB and the IETM end user and manages IETP package downloads and access.

The MobieTP application supports SVG graphics which are converted from CGM when the IETP is created. Referenced PDFs and multimedia files are also supported.
